Lowcountry Bombshell A Liz Talbot Mystery Volume 2 Susan M Boyer 9781938383564 Books
When vacationing near Charleston, SC, I always try to read a book that takes place in the South Carolina low country. Lowcountry Bombshell by Susan B. Moyer is the second novel in her Liz Talbot mystery series. I thought that Lowcountry Bombshell would be a light read (think Janet Evanovich) but I was pleasantly surprised to discover a novel with a well-developed plot, fleshed-out characters and good writing. There was also a lot of fun to be had.Liz Talbot is a private investigator who lives on the island of Stella Maris, near Charleston, SC. Taylor is hired by Calista McQueen, a beautiful woman who is a dead-ringer for the bombshell actress, Marilyn Monroe. Her life has paralleled the famous actress in so many ways that it is uncanny. McQueen is now getting threats and believes that someone is going to kill her on the anniversary of Monroe’s death—less than a week away. At first, most people think that McQueen is exaggerating including Blake Talbot, Liz’s police chief-brother. But then Liz’s life is threatened as well and things are looking more serious. And as if Liz doesn’t have enough on her plate, she is dealing with complications in her love life. Her current boyfriend/ partner does not want to relocate to Stella Maris, and her former boyfriend is actively pursuing her. It makes for some tense moments.
Lowcountry Bombshell was an enjoyable read for a vacation. Ok—McQueen’s family was a little over the top. And you have to buy into the fact that Liz’s dead friend from her teenage-years has reappeared and become her “guardian spirit.” Also, I could have done without the very detailed sex scenes. Still, I am hooked on this series and immediately started book one, Lowcountry Boil. My one recommendation is to read these books in order. The changes in Liz’s personal life will make more sense.

Lowcountry Bombshell A Liz Talbot Mystery Volume 2 Susan M Boyer 9781938383564 Books Reviews
Just finished both these books. First LOW COUNTRY BOIL was such a good read. Liz Talbot as a P.I. was very entertaining. She took her job very seriously, had a brother who was Chief of Police in her hometown, a family that at times stressed the others out, and this was topped with an old love interest and a mystery to solve. Secondly LOW COUNTRY BOMBSHELL had all the same ingredients mixed with many of the same family and hometown characters, and of course a great mystery to solve..
I was not familiar with author Susan Boyer. LOW COUNTRY BOIL was her first release, and after reading the premise of the story and the reviews written, decided it was a book that sounded like it would be a good read and fun. Well, the reviewers were right on target. I think I experienced all the emotions of pleasure, happiness, sadness, anticipation to find out "who done it", and lots of laughter over an extremely funny book.
What surprised me was that after enjoying it so much, l went right back to get her second release LOW COUNTRY BOMBSHELL and finished it in less than a day. I agree with the reviewers that said they thought the second was even better than the first. Now I just hope that her next release will be coming through very soon because I'm looking forward to more books in the Liz Talbot Mystery Series. My suggestion to other readers is do yourself a favour -- get these books in sequence, find a quiet spot and be prepared to be entertained.
South Carolina is my favorite vacation destination. I was delighted to find this series of books. The author's references were heartwarming, and brought to mind memories of people and places I've visited while traveling through that area. I was completely immersed in the setting.
The story itself was engaging. I love a good mystery. I love Marilyn Monroe. Using real facts regarding the mystery surrounding the starlet's death really helped to enhance the other elements of the plot. It helped to hold my attention, and kept me glued to page after page until the culprit was revealed.
The author mentions that unlike the first book, this one contains sex. I'm not a fan of sex scenes in books. Due to how much I enjoyed the first book, I threw caution to the wind and decided to read it anyway. Compared to some other books, which were completely off-putting, these scenes were tame. I was pretty relieved at that!
I have to say, the end was a total surprise. I won't spoil it, but I never saw the twist and was delighted in being surprised. If you enjoy a good mystery, the laid back lifestyle of the South, and Marilyn Monroe, then you will love this book.
I slowed down reading in autumn of 2013. I had novels I really wanted to read but my health and finances said 'slow down.' Years passed and I remembered this series. I'm glad I'm in better health now as this book was written at a pace that would have a healthy person panting.
You not only will be panting at the action, you will find yourselves giggling throughout the novel. There is also a story of love running throughout.
Marilyn Monroe, or should I say Norma Jeane, or is it Calista McQueen...anyways, one of these ladies has come to Private Investigator, Liz Talbot to ask her to save her life! Yes, and that is just the opening.
We find characters, oh my. Southern Ladies, Ghosts, Yoga Instructors, Therapists, Housekeepers, Builders and more. Some even have enticing names such as "Moon Unit."
Two strong, handsome men, both caring about Liz as much as each other, cause complications in her life. Which does she truly love?
So, back to Marilyn...is she really in trouble. Oh my yes. However, you have to read this book to see if it is physical or mental. Is it because she is Marilyn or is it due to winning a large (oh my yes,) large Lotto?
This is a winning series. The dialog and action will keep you up turning pages and watch out for the Hogs...
